ADA Accessories/Replacement Items

Common questions

The number of ADA compliance kits required for a hotel or lodging property depends on the total number of guest rooms. ADA compliance kits include communication devices such as visual alarms, TTY/TDD equipment, telephone amplifiers, and door notification systems to help ensure accessibility for guests who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Need help determining how many hearing-accessible rooms are required? View the ADA's official Table 224.4 – Guest Rooms with Communication Features in the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design for the complete room-count requirements.

Choosing the right ADA communication kit depends on your property's existing equipment and the level of accessibility you want to provide. Our team is happy to help you select the best solution, but here are some general guidelines:

  • Choose an Economy Kit if you need a cost-effective solution with separate devices for telephone, door, and alarm clock notification.
  • Choose a Deluxe Kit if you prefer an all-in-one solution. The LookOut™ All-in-One System combines alarm clock, telephone, and door notification into a single bedside unit, reducing setup time and minimizing equipment in the guest room.
  • Choose an ADA Kit if your property does not already have permanently installed visual emergency notification appliances. Our ADA Kits include the KA300™ Visual Emergency Notification System, providing dedicated emergency notification for guests who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • If your property has digital or VoIP telephones, we recommend adding the KNS360SS Sound Sensor, which provides reliable telephone notification regardless of phone system type.
  • If your property already has permanently installed visual emergency notification devices, you may not need the emergency notification portion of the kit. We can help determine the most appropriate configuration.

Every property is different. Factors such as your telephone system, existing fire alarm equipment, room layout, and ADA compliance requirements all play a role in selecting the right solution.

Yes. Our notification systems can be used with analog, digital, and VoIP hotel phone systems. For properties that use digital or VoIP phones, the Krown LookOut™ KNS360SS Sound Sensor provides an effective solution by detecting the sound of a ringing telephone and wirelessly transmitting a signal to the guest notification device.

This allows guests to receive visual and vibrating alerts for incoming calls without requiring a direct connection to the phone line. The KNS360SS is ideal for modern hotel environments where traditional analog telephone connections may not be available.

For hotels with digital or VoIP phone systems, we typically recommend one of our Deluxe ADA Kits paired with the KNS360SS Sound Sensor. This combination allows the LookOut™ All-in-One Notification System to provide bedside visual and vibrating alerts for telephone calls, door notifications, and alarm clock functions through a single, easy-to-use device.

Yes. Most Compu-TTY® products that include an AC adapter are supplied with a universal power adapter with an input rating of 90–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, allowing them to be used in most countries around the world.

Please note:

  • A plug adapter may be required to match the electrical outlet configuration used in your destination country.
  • The universal AC adapter automatically accepts input voltages from 90 VAC to 240 VAC and frequencies of 50/60 Hz, eliminating the need for a separate voltage converter in most locations.
  • Telephone-related products may require compatibility verification with your country's local telephone network, digital phone system, or VoIP service.
  • International customers are responsible for providing any country-specific plug adapters that may be required.

If you're unsure whether a specific product is compatible with your country or application, our technical support team will be happy to assist. Please contact us at support@krownmfg.com before placing your order.

Both kits are designed to help hotels provide communication features for guests who are deaf or hard of hearing, but they differ in how notifications are delivered.

The Economy ADA Kit uses separate devices for each notification type. It includes a visual door notification device, a visual telephone signaler, a TTY/TDD, a telephone amplifier, and a vibrating alarm clock with bed shaker. Each device performs a specific function and is set up independently.

The Deluxe ADA Kit streamlines these functions by incorporating the Krown LookOut™ All-in-One Notification System. The LookOut™ combines an alarm clock, bed shaker, visual telephone notification, and door notification into a single, easy-to-use unit located at the bedside. The kit also includes a TTY/TDD and telephone amplifier for complete communication accessibility.

Yes. Our portable ADA communication kits are designed to be easily deployed in any guest room, giving your property the flexibility to accommodate guests wherever they choose to stay.

Rather than limiting a guest who is deaf or hard of hearing to a specific room, the kit can be quickly set up in the room that best meets their preferences or reservation needs. This provides greater flexibility for both guests and hotel staff while supporting an inclusive guest experience.

Most components are plug-and-play and require no permanent installation or modifications to the room. Hotel staff can typically set up the kit in just a few minutes and remove it just as easily when it is no longer needed.

Benefits of portable kits include:

  • Can be deployed in virtually any guest room
  • Gives guests greater freedom to choose where they stay
  • No permanent modifications to the room
  • Quick and easy setup by hotel staff
  • Easy to store and move between rooms as needed
  • Helps properties provide accessible accommodations while maximizing room availability

If your property has permanently installed communication features or visual emergency notification appliances, we can also recommend solutions that complement your existing systems.

A TTY (Text Telephone) enables guests who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have speech disabilities to communicate over the telephone network independently and effectively. In a hotel environment, a TTY provides several important benefits:

  • Direct Communication with Hotel Staff – Guests can communicate directly with the front desk, guest services, housekeeping, maintenance, and other hotel departments without relying on a third party.
  • Incoming and Outgoing Calls – TTY users can place and receive calls with family members, friends, businesses, and relay services.
  • Emergency Communications – Guests can contact emergency services directly from their guest room using the hotel's telephone system. Under RAY BAUM'S Act, 911 calls made through a hotel room phone provide dispatchable location information, helping emergency responders identify the hotel's location, floor, and room number more quickly.

By providing a TTY, hotels offer guests greater independence, accessibility, and access to critical communications during their stay.

The KA300™ Visual Emergency Notification System is a dedicated emergency notification appliance designed specifically to alert guests during emergency situations, such as fire alarms or other building emergency systems.

Unlike convenience notifications such as telephone calls, door knocks, or wake-up alarms, emergency notification devices should not be combined or confused with other notification functions in public accommodations. Their sole purpose is to provide a clear, unmistakable emergency alert when every second matters.

Keeping emergency notification separate helps:

  • Ensure emergency alerts are immediately recognizable.
  • Reduce the possibility of guests mistaking an emergency signal for a routine notification.
  • Support life safety by providing dedicated visual (and optional tactile) emergency notification.
  • Maintain a simple, reliable system focused exclusively on emergency events.

For this reason, the KA300™ is designed as a stand-alone emergency notification appliance, while products such as the LookOut™ Series provide separate notification for telephone calls, door visitors, and alarm clock functions.

This approach gives guests distinct notifications for everyday events while ensuring emergency alerts remain clear, consistent, and unmistakable.
